About
My research interests include manuscript and textual studies, particularly in the area of Old and Early-Modern Icelandic. I am currently working on a study of Magnús Jónsson í Tjaldanesi (1835-1922), in whose hand are preserved copies of nearly two hundred sagas, the majority collected under the general title “Fornmannasögur Norðurlanda” (sagas of the ancient men of the northern lands).
Another major project is a bibliography of the Fornaldarsögur norðurlanda, including manuscripts, editions, translations and secondary literature, compiled by myself and Silvia Hufnagel. The bibliography, which it is hoped will in and of itself be useful for scholars and students working with this material, is also intended to serve as the basis for a much larger project, expected to start in March next year, which will involve a survey of the entire transmission history of the Fornaldarsögur and new editions of some of the principal manuscripts in which they are preserved.
I have also taken part in a number of projects to do with the digitisation and text-encoding of medieval manuscripts and have a long-standing involvement in the work of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI).
